There were almost too many things I could write about today. Not people, just things I could write about Kitty. Because she is fascinating and skilled and it is tempting to make her representational of something larger. Which led to me thinking about her and W.E.B. DuBois and the idea of double consciousness. Then I realized no one would read that but I will say this, it is hard to find an article about her that doesn’t use the phrases teenage rapper or teenage girl rapper in front of her name like it was a job title. Like she went down to Rap Corp, got a job at an entry level position called “Teenage Girl Rapper”. That’s how she answers the phone. I bring this up because I think she is marvelously talented, I enjoy her flow, I think she is an excellent lyricist, I think the future is bright but what we see here is difficult. See, if you are a woman, or black, or… well not a straight, white male your identity is always first the thing that makes you not a straight, white male. I won’t go deeper than that but a good example is that you very rarely find yourself saying, “Oh, Mr. Johnson, he’s the white guy teacher”. It is limiting in ways we don’t necessarily realize. If you want to talk to me about it more my ask box is open but I will say she is a talented rapper and she is a teenage girl and the second will inform how she approaches the first but it does not define the first. Or it doesn’t have to. But that was longer than I thought, you have no idea how much I had to hold back about things like DIY, tubmlrcore, and all sorts of other stuff. So just the bullet points. Kitty is a girl, a teenager, a rapper, adorable, pretty hot. Today I want to fuck Kitty.
