I wasn’t sure what to do today but I have thoughts and I need to share them so I will. Carrie Fisher was remarkable for a lot of reasons and very few of them had to do with Star Wars. I wrote some about it here when I posted her years ago but it’s more than that. I know this year has not been great in a lot of ways but part of the reason this stings is because it is a woman who really didn’t come into her own until much later in life, until after the point most people would consider her peak. If you have never read one of Carrie Fisher’s books I would recommend it but read her stories or not, her story is important. Carrie Fisher very well could have been dead long before I was able to differentiate between Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher. There are lots of reasons for this, the pressures of growing up in an anything but normal household, of oppressive fame and the weight of expectations, of undiagnosed mental illnesses, of heavy drug use that was no doubt self medicating to fix all of that. The world can be hard and unforgiving, even for royalty, be it space royalty or Hollywood royalty. It can crush us and not everyone makes it through. There is no shame in that. But there is pride in fighting back and dragging yourself out. Which she did. Carrie Fisher saved her own life through grit, determination, her intelligence and her will. She could have been a Hollywood cautionary tale or maybe even worse a living punchline but she refused to be. Even though throughout the early 90’s it sure felt like people wanted to force her into the latter category she refused to let them with her wit and smarts she became an in demand script doctor and a writer and refused to let the world around her define her, she defined herself with her own pen. And of late it seems like most of the world woke up to what a acerbic delight she was, more clever and more canny than most people knew how to deal with. So it’s a tragedy she left so early when circumstances made us wait so long. She drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra. She will be greatly missed. Today I want to fuck Carrie Fisher.

I posted Stoya once a million years ago (well not a million, I was a liberal arts major, I took math for liberal arts majors, so you’ll have to deal). She hasn’t shown up again because I don’t really watch a lot of porn. This isn’t really a judgement about porn it’s just a lack of interest. I mean, obviously I am a huge perv but I have never been a porn person because also deep down I am a control freak. Maybe if the actors on screen did what the fuck I wanted I would be interested but they don’t and they go down these boring, cliches paths that just don’t interest me. What I am saying is my issues with porn stem from the fact that it doesn’t bend to my will like my imagination does. So I don’t watch much porn. I do adore Stoya though and mainly for non porn reasons. I have always found her to be a thoughtful and interesting writer and I was very sad when she just suddenly stopped posting to tumblr. Apparently not sad enough to get off my ass and look for other places to find her but I was sad. Anyway, she does have another blog now it looks like and again I enjoy her thoughts. Even if my feelings or beliefs are not in line with everything i always appreciate someone who can articulate themselves and give a different perspective. Of course, I do often find myself agreeing with her. On top of that she is beautiful. So that’s a nice thing, too. Which is why she is here today because she’s beautiful and intelligent and I like her. Today I want to fuck Stoya.
Every few months an article comes across my desk (or desktop or phone or whatever) talking about either how porn has become increasingly mainstream or how it has become increasingly democratic, or how this isn’t your Daddy’s porn anymore because things have changed (My Daddy’s porn was frustratingly either non existent or impossibly well hidden. This was a real issue in the days before the internet, at 13 you didn’t have a lot of options and there was just nothing in my house, trust me, I looked). Without fail mentioned in these articles are either or both Stoya and James Deen. It makes sense, too, because Stoya is ridiculously articulate about all manner of things including the realities of the porn industry. Her tumblr can be a fascinating read if you’ve never checked it out, she is a gifted and thoughtful writer. Also, if your world is tumblr centric you would think this power couple of porn to be among the most famous people in the universe. Due to the nature of who is on tumblr a large number of my followers are teenage girls. A lot of them when I have checked out their blog have Stoya on their dash. It is a little mind blowing because I didn’t even know the names of any porn stars when I was a teenager and I certainly didn’t know a girl alive who would have pasted pictures of male or female porn stars on their locker doors. So maybe it is more mainstream. Or maybe it isn’t. Maybe it’s cyclical, you can find a lot of writing about how mainstream porn was becoming from the 70’s also but the VCR cured that pretty well. I don’t know, mainly Stoya is here because I have been thinking about it, and about the implications of porn and you know, it isn’t black and white. But that’s what makes her writing so interesting, she is aware of that. I still am not sure where I stand to be honest but she is pretty and she is thoughtful and she is intelligent and it means she’s one of the rare porn stars to ever show up here. Today I want to fuck Stoya.
Saturday Night Live is back and that always has me excited because I have always been a big fan of SNL. Which is a little silly because it has always been painfully inconsistent but it is one of those things, getting to stay up and watch it was once upon a time a big deal right of passage. We would brag about having seen episodes when I was in Junior High, who was at a slumber party and got to watch. It was a big deal. I think that’s why I still find myself excited to watch because it still feels like this special thing. Very crafty, Lorne Michaels. Anyway, Tina Fey is brilliantly funny and was the first ever person on SNL who I thought was smoking hot. It’s become more common among the cast members now to not only be funny but be attractive. For me she was the first (Sorry Julia Louis Dreyfus fans, I was like 5 when she was on the show). So Tina Fey hosted last night, she is very pretty and she is very funny and we’re probably in for a rough season since so much of the cast turned over but it doesn’t matter because I love the show and I love getting to see Tina Fey. If there is a God she’ll host something with Amy Poehler again soon and I won’t have to be too Fey deprived. Today I want to fuck Tina Fey.
