I will probably keep this brief today but either way it’s odd that I seem to be in a pattern of repeating posts so close together. Gigi Hadid was shooting some commercial this week and the pictures were painfully low quality but I thought she looked good in them. Sorry to break up my Olympic posts with the kind of celebrities that people actually started following me for but hey, it happens. The Glamour Women of the Year awards were last night and lots of publications give Women of the Year and Men of the Year awards and it always strikes me as a little strange. Sure, I like best picture or best new novel or whatever, that makes sense. It is choosing the best of art that was produced to help honor and I assume bring attention to it so people know they should check it out. But like… best person? It just feels odd. I had a joke here but I have lost it. I will not be winning memory of the year sadly. Anyway, the best looking Woman of the Event was Gigi Hadid. She often looks good because she’s pretty but also she has a pretty good sense of style. In this case the gown she wore was just fantastic. I love it. The intricate work on it, the color, the cut. If you hate models I have bad news for you. Well, lots of bad news. One is that if you literally hate people for something so minor as they have chosen a career that you have decided to vilify then life is not going to be pleasant for you. That’s a lot of hate to direct at something that frankly doesn’t matter and it will eat away at your soul over time. Hate will destroy you eventually. This isn’t some new age Jedi bullshit, I don’t think you’ll develop yellow eyes or anything, it is just that people just only have so much energy and what you’ll find is if you focus on what you hate instead of what you love people will just not want to spend time with you because you’re likely not a very pleasant person to be around. It’s a thing to think about. But that wasn’t my initial point, more immediately than the slow souring of your spirit, if you hate models the bad news is we’re into our 4th Fashion Week and it means I am still posting a lot of models. I guess if you just don’t like the models I like this isn’t great for you either. I didn’t create fashion week though, I am just the beneficiary. Obviously I am helpless to make my own decisions, I have to post models who show up at things. Anyway, Gigi Hadid was at a thing last night that I can’t remember. A cocktail party? A launch event? It all blurs together and let’s be honest, at their core they are all advertisements, some just more blatant than others. So she was at an advertisement for something fashion related but one of the good kind of ads that have people dress up fancy, which is nice for those of us who like seeing people dress up fancy. Gigi Hadid is here because it’s about damn time. She has been near the top quite a few days thanks to her being in pretty much every major show in Milan but kept getting bumped by someone else. So she’s here and it’s interesting with a lot of the fashion shows, so much of it is not for me yet there is almost always something I can find I like in every model. Not the model personally, though I am sure if I put in the effort that would be true. There are very few people who are so irredeemable they have nothing in them worthy of praise and I doubt that they have all flocked to modeling. I mean what they are wearing though, even some stuff I don’t like there is some aspect I do. And of course some of what Gigi has walked in I have loved. The strangest thing to me about runway work is the faces. It’s the no smiling thing which I realize has lots of roots in the past, mainly in aristocratic disdain and Victorian hate for emotions. Definitely a tradition worth preserving. But it’s strange. I get for passport photos you need to look deeply unhappy because as every science fiction vehicle from the 1960’s taught us, human emotion can literally make a computer explode, so a smile would bring down the entire Internet when facial recognition software tried to work. But with clothes? Really? I head someone says a smile might distract from the clothes. Boy, I dunno, if you’re worried people might be looking at the girls instead of the clothes maybe don’t have such a high beauty standard for modeling. I dunno, I just find it strange that there are a set of people in the world who get immediately unhappy if people seem to be having too much fun. I feel bad for those people, I think they must be deeply unhappy. I don’t really have a point here, I just want to look down my nose at unhappy people I guess? Ha, take that people who are already miserable! Anyway, Gigi looks good and I have enjoyed seeing her all over Milan and today I want to fuck Gigi Hadid.
The VMAs were last night and usually I would post about that but for whatever reason this morning I am posting Gigi Hadid, who I am pretty sure was not there. This isn’t common for me but it happens. The Heart wants what the heart wants. Well… not the heart. I mean, let’s be clear, I am not claiming I love Gigi Hadid. Feels important to clarify for lots of reasons. I don’t actually know her and I feel the internet has only accelerated something that has bothered me since I was a kid, which is the cheapening of our words by over using them. People used to tell me something was great or amazing and then it would turn out to be just ok and when confronted they would say something, “Yeah, when I say something is amazing I just mean I liked it”. Well, that ruins language and I can’t think of a worse word for us to devalue as a culture than love. It’s powerful stuff but only so long as we allow it to be. Also, not only am I a hero for taking a stand on this important issue there is the fact that I haven’t met her and that is the action of a crazy person, claiming to love someone you don’t know. Next thing I’ll be scrawling on the walls that we we’re meant to be together and it’s this whole long slide into this crazy stalker vibe and I’d have to get whole new clothes and I am just not that committed to it. If it requires a uniform I am usually just too lazy to engage. So you know, it’s not quite what the heart wants but I don’t want to be crude. This is a family blog and it’s important to me that people can read it with their kids. That’s how we’ll know who shouldn’t be a parent. Gigi Hadid showed up in Korean Vogue (I assume. I am not in Korea and don’t own a copy of the magazine. The photoshoot says it’s from Korean Vogue on the internet and sometimes you have to take a leap of faith. This weekend has been unkind to me sleep wise. The past two nights I have done that thing where I am just dead tired and I go to bed early only to wake up an hour later unable to get back to sleep, so I get up and watch cartoons streaming from some site (as all adults are want to do at 1 AM) before going back to bed, only to wake up an hour later and repeat the cycle. So I am just… in a strange place and in all honesty I was going to post someone else today but in my search for pictures I got angry about the lack of pictures, which made me turn on the girl as if it were her fault and I no longer had any desire to post her.
