Hey it’s Sunday so here is Charli XCX.  You might be wondering how those things are connected but I am going to leave that as a mystery.  And by leave it as a mystery I mean I wrote it and don’t know what I meant but if I pretend it’s a secret then I seem interesting and mysterious and your brain will come up with a more interesting connection than I could make up.  Or you won’t really care because you don’t really read this anyway and if you’re one specific follower you’re just scrolling to the bottom so you can misspell her name in the replies because you like tweaking me.  It’s all good because I have Charli XCX to look at.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Most of you probably don’t realize it because I have played it pretty close to the vest until now but I am a pretty big Charli XCX fan.  It’s ok if you feel like we’re close but you hadn’t caught on, it’s me, not you.  I never bring it up.  I am very secretive about it.  She has been in a bunch of pictures lately and it seems people are still digging the video for Boys and all of this is good because almost once a day Youtube recommends some new interview with her or something.  Because, of course, while no one else has noticed tht I love Charli XCX, Google knows all.  Which is frightening but if it keeps sending me Charli XCX interviews I will be too distracted to do anything about it.  So uh… hurray for that?  I guess.  Anyway, here she is because I really like her and today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Charli XCX posted a behind the scenes video of the making of her video for Boys this morning and there was a nice little interview video with her that surfaced yesterday and… well usually I’d make a joke about it not taking much to get me to post Charli XCX but that isn’t accurate.  I mean, for one it’s no joke, a stiff wind can make me want to post Charli XCX but also it isn’t really a little thing.  They both were just indicative of a lot of what I like about her.  I am obviously attracted to her but I also find her thoughtful and intelligent and as always I am confused how others don’t other than perhaps we have been trained to take our pop stars less than serious.  In the sense that pop is and has been primarily consumed by women and thus it is more frivolous and less important.  I am not saying you are brainwashed if you don’t like Charli XCX, I am just saying we internalize certain biases.  I love the Beatles and I grew up on a pretty steady diet of punk music but there is nothing about either that inherently make them more serious business musically.  Neither is complex and they aren’t going to cause the planets to align, instead the importance comes from the fact that we always took it seriously and took the time to search for deeper meaning.  One of the best literary trends in my lifetime that has slowly infiltrated all of the culture is moving genre works from the ghetto to serious consideration.  The idea that anything can be well done and even low culture that is not traditionally considered high art might have a great deal to tell us about ourselves and the people who made it.  But I have noticed that is mainly taken into consideration in genres that were largely male dominated.  Horror and Superheroes and Science Fiction are all getting their day and scholarly discussion but there is a shelf of Harlequin Romance novels that used to sit in my Aunt’s childhood bedroom that are still considered an embarrassment to this day.  So what I am saying is it’s ok if you don’t like Charli XCX and you don’t agree with me about her thoughtfulness and intelligence.  But if you find yourself dismissive of pop stars, who let’s be honest are largely female and largely consumed by female listeners, you might want to ask yourself what is it about them that makes them unworthy of serious consideration.  Anyway, I enjoyed the videos and I still think Boys is fantastic and a lot of fun.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

So I was just reading about Charli XCX on Stereogum and I’ll just link it here because it basically expresses the same complaints I have had recently so why not just let them go ahead and do it for me.  I quite enjoyed Boys and the video this week, even if it is a song that clearly plagiarizes the personal, constant thoughts of @she-goes-to-eleven who also only ever thinks about boys.  I will say, it made me feel kind of old though because as I was watching everyone looked familiar but I could only identify about half the boys.  Which means I am probably old now officially.  Though I am going to choose to tell myself that it is actually because of the fracturing of pop culture, some of those are youtubers and it is important we remind ourselves even the most incredibly famous youtube personality is actually not very famous at all.  In the sense that fewer people know who they are than don’t.  I have to remind myself that too when watching a video they start to become a familiar face but you have to realize not only does your mom not know who they are, your friends probably don’t either.  Or at least some of your friends.  Anyway, it is a fun pop song with a fun video and I will probably always appreciate Charli XCX’s intelligence and skill as a crafter of pop songs as well as the smart way she approaches pop culture in general.  And at this point I will apparently always bemoan that her new album still isn’t out.  God I hope that part changes some day.  Anyway, here she is because I post her so much that it really annoys a few of my most devoted followers.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Charli XCX was at the BBC and there were pictures and hey, that’s enough of an excuse for me.  I though she looked pretty.  She really has very nice hair.  I liked it.  I like her a lot and well, it takes just only the tiniest of nudge for me to post Charli.  So here she is leaving the BBC and other things.  And at stuff.  It’s a theme, the theme being she is in all the pictures.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Charli XCX was at the Warner Music party yesterday and I think she looked lovely.  It was a pretty simple block top and pants but I liked it.  She looked good.  I like her a lot.  Now, I am sure someone is aware Charli is with Atlantic but not aware of how the music industry works and wonders why she was at the Warners Music Party.   Welcome to why Pop music isn’t very inventive and why even good artists are herded into a type.  Atlantic Records, one of the legendary labels in all of music is owned by Atlantic Records Group, which owns dozens of labels, many of which were once independent.  Atlantic Records Group is owned by Warner Music Group, which owns thousands of labels, many of which used to be independent of each other.  The record industry, is by and large, owned part and parcel by a small handful of companies.  The result isn’t just creative stifling but a lack of innovation, a slowness to adapt, and a result that means basically musicians make very little money from records anymore, that all goes to the label, and instead make all their money touring.  Which is why I can’t wait for the dinosaurs that are the monolith record companies to finally die.  It won’t really hurt the artists but it might free them.  I know I have low key bitched a lot about labels in recent Charli posts, and you know, part of that is just that I grew up as a punk kid so I have a natural hatred of them anyway, but you know, I’m kind of bitter about the delays of Charli’s album.  Because they of course want her to just keep making the same song.  Something she has always refused to do and according to rumors has gotten her a lot of grief.  In that like, when she wanted to release a free mix tape they stuck their grubby little fingers in that even to really sour it all.  Who knows, I may not like the new album but I do know it will take her in a new direction because that is basically what she does.  I’d like the chance to hear it and to be honest I don’t care what the Warner Monolith thinks of it. Anyway, on top of my anger at her label, she looked great.  Her I adore.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Charli XCX opened up Glastonbury yesterday and I thought she looked really good in the bits of it I saw.  Of course, there are basically no pictures of the performance anywhere that I can find so I am not showing them here.  Instead her are other pictures of Charli XCX and you can imagine her on stage singing.  Enjoy that I guess.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Charli XCX was performing at the Governor’s Ball earlier this week and I had been waiting for pictures to emerge and they have so she is here.  It’s nice because I am extremely attracted to Charli XCX, even if I am a little bummed we aren’t getting her album until late in the year.  Assumign we get it then.  Her career trajectory has been so strange and the album being pushed back mixed with Atlantic’s sudden decision to charge for her free mix tape and release it on Radio and just… well, it has always been clear that they don’t know how to handle her but also maybe she will never be what they want.  I was thinking about that last night and how much her sound seems to shift constantly, which makes sense since she is an excellent song writer (and that’s probably why they want to keep her because she can write hits for other people) but also very creative and creative people usually don’t want to be boxed in.  I mean, early on she got all that critical praise mixed with no album sales.  She probably counted more critics as fans than non critics as fans at some point because I remember True Romance sold notably low numbers when it was first released.  But… well, I don’t need to go into this album by album.  I liked Sucker plenty but I know she didn’t and I can see how it could be considered the label forcing her to try and recreate I Love It.  I happened to like Vroom Vroom a lot but maybe the world isn’t ready for PC Music.  Maybe the world never will be.  Anyway, I was thinking about all of this and the concept that pop music is frivolous or silly but it is clear there is artistic intent and integrity to what Charli XCX does as well as a lot of hard work. I suppose those who like to decry pop could claim that’s why she has never become a true star, because pop music rewards sameness, not innovation.  I would argue those people are assholes because as someone who grew up a punk kid and spent a lot of time going to indie rock shows, no genre really rewards innovation and pretty much everyone wants to slap you down if you don’t conform.  Trust me, no one conforms to the pressure of peer standards more than a group of non conformists.  Anyway, I was thinking about this and I hope her new album comes out eventually but more I hope it is just whatever she wants it to be.  I happen to quite like her and on top of that I also find her extremely attractive.  I guess both are why she’s here but the second part more so right now.  Today I want to fuck Charli XCX.

Today will be short cause I am stupid stressed and just… am not feeling particularly creative.  And I am sure people will be confused by that but yes, writing these is a creative endevour, it takes at least a tiny bit of effort.  Anyway, today Charli XCX has a new mixtape coming out which I have not been able to listen to yet but hopefully soon.  Hopefully it rules.  Either way I like her so she’s here.  Today I want to fuck Chali XCX.
